Have an imaginative 7-12 year old kid? Here are 2 great ways to nurture their imagination (and their creative writing skills) this summer.

Sign up for tutoring or a group workshop with Flatiron-based Andrea Scully of Pencil Heads, who recently sold a screenplay to Walt Disney Studios and wrote several episodes of the PBS show Super Why and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.

  • Private Tutoring: One-on-one writing sessions include warm-up exercises, as well as lessons in outlining, plotting, and character development. She will  teach your kid how to organize thoughts and color every story with bright and shiny details. Email or call 917-409-7483 for more info.
  • One-Day Workshop: The Pencil Heads Creative Writing Workshops encourage kids (ages 8-11) to unleash their imaginations directly onto the blank page. Each workshop includes exciting improvisational games and fun writing exercises. Next one is Sunday, June 10th from 1:15 pm – 3:15 pm at 131 W. 72ND Street. Learn more and enroll at (Space limited to 10 kids).

(The Pencil Head kids even got to write lunch reviews for the New York Post last year!)
