Unfortunately, the crane is here and today the giant head sculpture Echo by artist Jaume Plensa in Madison Square Park will come down. The photo to the right was taken at 10am and you might still be able to get your last photos or viewing in.

Originally the exhibit was set to come down August 14th but it was extended due to its popularity with locals and tourists.

The breathtaking piece is a 44ft tall fiberglass resin face of a young girl in a dream state and was inspired by both a real 9 year old and the Greek nymph Echo.

The sculpture is part of the Madison Square Conservancy’s groundbreaking Madison Square Art public art program.

The next artist in the park will be sculpture from Alison Saar. Read more about it here.
