Jaume Plensa sculpture of 44ft head now up in Madison Square Park
In another breathtaking art installation in Madison Square Park, Spanish artist Jaume Plensa has created a spectacular 44ft sculpture of a girl’s head specifically for this exhibition.
The piece, Echo, is a giant fiberglass resin face of a young girl in a dream state and was inspired by both a real 9 year old and the Greek nymph Echo. The peaceful face against the new spring trees in the park makes for a masterful installation, and one of the most impressive large scale sculptures we have ever seen anywhere.
The exhibition officially starts May 5th, but as you can see from the photo taken today, you can get a preview of it now.
The sculpture will be on display from now through mid-August as part of the Madison Square Conservancy’s groundbreaking Madison Square Art public art program. To see more worked by Plensa, go to the Richard Gray Gallery.

[...] I took a quick snap of the new exhibit (a working process at the moment), at Madison Square Park. The piece is called “Echo,” created by artist Jaume Plensa. The piece was inspired by a nine-year-old girl and the Greek nymph called Echo. The exhibit doesn’t officially start until May 5, but you can get a preview of its incomplete state now.
