Art @ Tekserve is a series of exhibitions featuring a diverse range of ‘styles, mediums and artists’, and this Saturday you can stop by the Tekserve store (119 West 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenue) to celebrate the opening of the Chester Higgins photography exhibit entitled “My Soul Flies Home to Africa”.

Chester Higgins Jr. is a New York Times staff photographer who has traveled to Africa over 30 times to “photograph the people, ancient sites, sacred rituals, and small town life in Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal & Ghana”.

His photos capture both the beauty and the emotion of his encounters and will be on display at Tekserve from May 5th through June 12th.

  • What: Meet the artist, see his works, and enjoy African music, food and drink

  • Bonus: Chester Higgins Jr. will also be at Tekserve at 6:30pm on Wednesday, May 9, to give a talk (“In the Divine Spirit of Africa.”) This event is also free.
