eBay just announced that they will set up a Technology Center of Excellence in the Flatiron at 625 Sixth Avenue (between 18th and 19th Street). From the eBay Ink blog, the goal of the center will be “200 people over the next couple of years – most of whom will work on cool technology and data programs that are critical to the eBay experience.”

It is slated to open in fall 2012 and is said to take up 35,000 square feet plus a roof deck. The office will be run by Hunch co-founder Chris Dixon (acquired by eBay late last year) and will have a public event area, dedicated space for startup incubation, and a ‘PayPal Shopping Showcase’.

The move by eBay further solidifies the Flatiron district as the primary hub of startup activity in New York City.
