The Center for an Urban Future just released a detailed report called New Tech City to analyze internet and technology startups in new York City. Its definitely worth browsing through the full report if you are in the industry, or industries that benefit from startup growth (office leasing, condo sales & apartment rentals, services sector). Among the findings:

  • Zip code 10010 (which covers Madison Square Park) was the top zip code in New York City for new and funded start-ups founded since 2007. (page 12)
  • Plotted on a map, the highest concentration of funded start-ups founded since 2007 in NYC are located between Union Square and Madison Square Park (page 13)
  • “Of the seven leading technology regions in the United States, New York City was the only one to see an increase in the number of VC deals between 2007 and 2011, according to data from the MoneyTree report published by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association.” (page 11)
  • “In the last five years, information technology jobs in the city have increased by 28.7 percent, from 41,100 to 52,900.” (page 11)
