Closest evacuation center, just in case

For neighborhood readers, it seems that most of us won’t be part of an evacuation according to the Zone A/B/C map.

But just in case you need it, it appears the closest evacuation center is at Baruch College (155 East 24th Street).

Stay safe!

[Real-time update 12 noon Friday] Home Depot is out of all flashlights and at least half of their batteries. (See photo right for flashlight wall at Home Depot at 12 noon).

According to WalkScore, the Flatiron is the third most walkable neighborhood in New York City, following Little Italy and then Soho. According to the site, “Walk Score measures how easy it is to live a car-lite lifestyle—not how pretty the area is for walking.”

For the nerds among us, they put out a full whitepaper on their methodology, but in a nutshell it looks at the distance to different neighborhood services like a grocery store, restaurants, schools, banks, parks, shopping, etc as well as structural things like intersection density and block length. Here is the map for the Flatiron… http://www.walkscore.com/NY/New_York/Flatiron_District.
