Nike to open running concept store in the Flatiron

Following in the footsteps (no pun intended) of the recently opened New Balance running store in the Flatiron, Crains reports that Nike will be opening a concept Running Store at 156 Fifth Avenue (between 20th and 21st street).

Marimekko opens flagship us store in the Flatiron next to Madison Square Park

The Marimekko flagship store is now open at 200 5th Avenue just west of New York’s Madison Square Park (adjacent to Eataly). Marimekko features clothing, accessories and home products, including tons of fabric so you can make your own stuff. Marimekko was founded in Finland.

They are known for their vibrant, original prints and creative designs featured on all of their merchandise.

The store was designed by Japanese architectural firm IMA and is just under 4000 square feet, according to a news release.

“Opening a shop of our own in an excellent location in the heart of Manhattan will support our strategy of building up Marimekko’s profile and strengthening the brand image” stated President and CEO Mika Ihamuotila.

And if you saw the bright umbrellas and tablecloths currently at Madison Square Eats, yes those are Marimekko prints.

Another forgotten fact is that Jacqueline Kennedy brought Marimekko fashions to the US spotlight in the 1960′s when she had many of their dresses. Sex and the City also featured Carrie in a Marimekko bikini and dress.
