One of the hidden gems of Yelp and the Madison Square Park area is Asia Tui-Na Wholeness (37 East 28th Street, Suite 800). It’s not fancy, it’s not seedy, and it’s not expensive. It is intense.

Read a few Yelp reviews to get an idea of what you are in for. It’s $55 for a 60 minute massage using extremely strong pressure, especially when the masseuse finds an area of knots or tension. Rather than working a sore muscle or nerve bundle over a few times, it will be 3x as long as you would want and increasingly painful.

The setting is a row of massage tables separated by thin curtains in what was likely an office space, and you will be on your stomach the whole time.

Yelpers have cried, begged, and demanded the masseuse stop at times, but the 56 reviewers (4.5 star rating) almost all believe the pain was well worth it, after a day or two of soreness.
