Maison Kitsune Paris has opened up in the retail spot at the new Nomad Hotel (1170 Broadway at 28th Street) with ready-to-wear fashion from Paris. You can check out their collections online at http://shop.kitsune.fr. They also seem to be offering free shipping to the US until Wednesday as part of their store opening, but since it’s right here in the neighborhood, you can also just stop by. Warning, Parisian fashion does not come cheaply – t-shirts start at around $60 according to their website, with skirts and dresses starting around $250 and pushing $1000.

In their own words, “Curated by Maison Kitsuné founders Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, the store includes the whole Maison Kitsuné women & men’s collections, the new J.M. Weston x Maison Kitsuné collaboration and selected products from WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, Monocle, Michel Vivien and Aesop. “

Their biggest challenge is going to be that this stretch of Broadway is still predominantly wholesale shops hawking cheap sweatpants/sweatshirt/jackets, as well as cheap luggage and cheap bulk perfume. Just looking across the street from the Nomad is enough to show this high-end boutique is currently out of place, and won’t get much foot traffic. Really the only precedent for expensive fashion on this stretch is Opening Ceremony a block up at the Ace Hotel (29th and Broadway), but as you can see from their website, Opening Ceremony is a bit more street art, a bit more edgy. Overall, Maison Kitsune Paris is a welcome addition to the area and the boutique looks great – definitely stop by to try on some Parisian fashion in the heart of the Nomad neighborhood.
