It’s the last day of Summer Streets 2014 from now until 1pm (Saturday 16th). The city shuts down 6.9 miles of streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, so you can walk, run, bike or play without any cars. It’s awesome to be able to ride up to Central Park without fear of getting hit by a car or breathing in car exhaust. For the most part it runs of Park Avenue, and passes right by the Madison Square Park area on Park Avenue South.
They also have an interactive art exhibit in the Park Avenue Tunnel again. This one is called Dive by Norwegian artist Jana Winderen and will be an “immersive sound installation within the Park Avenue Tunnel using sounds recorded from shallow to deep underwater environments in Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Canada, USA, Thailand, and most recently around the equator in the Caribbean and the Pacific. Ms. Winderen records sounds made by crustaceans, fish and mammals using sensitive hydrophones.”
We have one of the big official stops (the Midtown Rest Stop) right at 25th and Park where you can do the following:
Enjoy Whole Foods Market City Picnic, with free samples from Whole Foods, Applegate Farms, Daiya, Honest Tea, Steve’s Ice Cream, Organic Valley, Nature’s Path, Gardein, Chia Co., Sweet Leaf Tea and Morningstar Farms.
