[10/31 CORRECTION: Kew Management tells us NO lease has been signed for this space. The NY Post article was incorrect.]
Word is in from the Post that a 5 Napkin Burger (http://5napkinburger.com) will open just north of Madison Square Park at 1133 Broadway (between 26th and 27th Street). The burger spot is a spinout of the Upper West Side’s Nice Matin and will be the fourth 5 Napkin Burger in Manhattan. It will be on the same block as Hill Country Chicken, next to Num Pang and across from the new Vin sur Vingt, just a block down from the Nomad restaurant, Sweetgreen, and the Ace Hotel (2 blocks). Plus the Smith is going in across the street.
5 Napkin Burger serves up burgers of course, but also Matzo Ball Soup, killer Onion Rings, sushi rolls, salads and sandwiches. Here is the full menu from the Union Square location: http://5napkinburger.com/union-square-new-york.
This stretch of Broadway just north of Madison Square Park has become a very hot area for hotels, restaurants and creative lunch spots. If you question the location’s ability to draw a crowd, go check out the lines at Sweetgreen, even at 9pm when the metal doors are down in the buildings around it. It’s typically packed. The days of the wholesale perfume/sportswear/luggage shops are coming to an end in the area and Nomad is being revived with new businesses, hotels and residences.
No word on an opening date but we would suspect it is a 2014 target.
