Korean gastropub Barn Joo opens tonight in the Flatiron at 893 Broadway (between 19th and 20th streets) at the bottom of the Hotel Verite. Barn Joo features small plates by chef Steve Song (Mono & Mono) including 3 kinds of wings, and tapas like Miso Glazed Pork Belly, Salmon with Yuzu, Pot Ramen and Seafood Scallion Pancake, as well as 4 Korean influenced ‘sushi’ rolls. You can see the menus at www.barnjoo.com/bar-and-restaurant/eat/.
They open tonight to the public with shots of Yuzu for everyone and performances by Girls Generation (8pm) and BTOB (9pm). They have a full specialty cocktail menu as well as beer and wine (See it here) so Barn Joo seems just as much bar as restaurant. Without having been there it’s hard to tell if the emphasis is a place for drinks where you can also order from the kitchen or a place to have dinner that also has cocktails and almost club-like performances (at least on opening night). We will try to let you know more as we hear more and try it.
