Beechers Grilled cheese and fig

We finally stopped in to try some of the take away menu items at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (900 Broadway at 20th Street). The Flatiron store is an outpost for their popular Seattle one, and has two levels. They make cheese onsite and have a cafe with sandwiches and such, as well as a Cellar next to the cheese cave where you can have a glass of wine as well as small plates of food (and their famous Mac and Cheese). In addition to their own cheese, they sell a ‘best of American artisan cheeses and charcuterie’.

I am not sure many locals know about the grilled cheese at Beecher’s yet, but they are awesome, and you can get one to go from the top level in about 5 minutes.  We tried the grilled Flagship Cheese with Fig jam and the Grilled Flagship Cheese with Black Forest ham. By the way, their Flagship cheese  is “a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese with a uniquely robust, nutty flavor”. It’s all perfectly grilled on artisan bread and you can’t go wrong with either one. If you like a rich savory-sweet combo go for the Fig grilled cheese.

We sampled the famous Mac ‘n Cheese as well and it is quite good, although we are already pretty spoiled in the neighborhood with great mac ‘n cheese offerings from places like Hill Country and Dirty Bird among other places.

Definitely stop in and try one of the Beecher’s grilled cheese sandwiches.

Here is the full Beecher’s Cafe menu (top floor).

And here is the Cellar menu.
