While we have the normal selection of Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts in the Madison Square Park and Flatiron area for coffee, there are a few other places that serve higher quality coffee.

Here is a current list of favorites:

Cafe Grumpy (224 W 20th St between 7th/8th Avenue): Won Time Out New York’s Best Coffee in 2009. Each cup is crafted one at a time, using the Clover brewing machine for the perfect coffee. (See review here)

Stumptown Coffee (20 West 29th at Ace Hotel): The Pacific Northwest’s finest coffee is now available from a cafe in the Ace Hotel. French press coffee and over a dozen varietals from different regions. Free small coffee with any purchase of beans. (See review here)

Birch Coffee (7 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel): Good coffee, a full menu of sanwiches and salads, a daily meditation and DJ broadcasts can be found at Birch Coffee. (See review here)

Blue Dog Cafe (101 W 25th St near 6th Avenue): Great sandwiches to go along with solid coffee. (See review here)

Tamarind Tea Room (43 East 22nd Street): Along with coffee, the Tamarind Tea Room serves a range of teas and Indian inspired sandwiches and snacks.

Wichcraft (11 E 20th St): Good coffee and excellent sandwiches. Part of the craft empire of restaurants. Currently offering half off coffee drinks between 3-6pm. (Call to make sure this deal is still available 212-780-0577)

Medina (9 East 17th Street): A little further south, Cafe Medina always has freshly roasted global coffees.
