As we previously reported, MyDanoz Fine Foods opened at 271 Fifth Avenue (between 29th and 30th Street) and beyond being a gourmet food market, they operate a Zanmai sushi restaurant on the second floor. Zanmai is a chain sushi spot out of Japan.
We tried it out last week to see if it was a new legitimate sushi option in the neighborhood. I am not sure many people know the sushi restaurant is up there yet, as there was only one other table taken. The setup includes tables and a real sushi bar, with 2 sushi chefs.
They had a 20% off promotion for almost anything in the restaurant (and the store), and we opted for the Sushi roll/Sushi/Miso Soup lunch special. It came with an 8-piece cut Spicy Tuna Avocado Roll, 6 pieces of any Sushi on the menu (we chose salmon), and a Miso Soup for $15.95 (before the 20% off). The big surprise was the portions (large) and that the salmon tasted really fresh – as fresh as any other sushi I have had in the neighborhood. The Spicy Tuna Avocado Roll were decent, but I might opt for another choice next time. Here is the full Zanmai menu.
Overall it served surprisingly fresh fish and makes for an easy and quick lunch spot when you are craving sushi. They also deliver (212.592.0761). For more info check http://mydanoz.com/zanmaisushi.
