Went back to Almond Restaurant on 22nd Street for brunch today, mostly to try one of their signature dishes, the Almond Hash. The Almond hash, pictured above right, features a poached egg over a mix of potatoes, roasted onions, duck confit and duck cracklins ($15). It’s an excellent combination of savory flavors and the poached egg is perfectly cooked to mix with everything upon the first bite. A little container of fresh salsa on the side adds more acidity and complexity to the dish, but it doesn’t need it. Highly recommended.

The room was lively and full, even for a summer weekend in a location that has gone through a handful of restaurants quite quickly in the last decade. It’s spacious, has good food, is baby friendly (room for strollers), and they got us right in to a table. Beyond the Almond Duck Hash, they have a variety of other egg dishes, ricotta pancakes, buttermilk waffles with home-made nutella, banana bread french toast, nicoise salad, and mac and cheese with prosciutto and truffles among other things.
