Flatiron Finds: Sirtaj Indo-Pak Cuisine
- Chicken Mahkni & Paneer
Chicken Mahkni & Paneer
They may not care about ambiance (and the addition of the scaffolding doesn’t help – or maybe it does…), but Sirtaj Indo-Pak restaurant at 36 W 26th St serves up flavorful Indian food to lunch crowds and has Yelpers raving about their find. Favorites include the chicken makhni (see photo). Tip: Go at lunch when the food is fresh and hot.
Sirtaj is a fast and reasonably-priced lunch place in the Madison Square Park vicinity. For more refined (and more expensive) Indian food in the area, try Tamarind (41-43 East 22nd street), which is some of the best in the country or Chennai Garden (129 E. 27th St.) for authentic mid-priced vegetarian.

Tamarind is really high-end for Indian food but one of my favorite spots. The quality of the ingredients (chicken, lamb, etc) are at another level than most Indian food places. Haven’t tried Chennai but will now…
