A posting on Midtown Lunch reminded us that we still needed to review the Frankie Street Cart at Tabla restaurant (Madison Avenue @ 25th Street), so here it is. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s an awesome take away lunch with a quick line.

We tried the Chicken Tikka Frankie ($8) and the Lamb Frankie ($7), and have had the Chocolate Chip Cookie & Kulfi Sandwich ($3) as well. It’s a few dollars more than a typical take away lunch, but the quality is as good as it gets. No random street cart mystery meats- its high quality chicken and tender lamb. Here is the Frankie Cart menu.

The Chicken Tikka Frankie is cooked in the tandoor and served in a egg and green onion wrap with mint chutney. The Lamb Frankie is also in the egg-onion wrap, but spicier with grilled onions and pickled chillies.

The cookie and kulfi is basically a very good  ice cream sandwich, with kulfi being like a denser, creamier ice cream.

So next time the Shake Shack line is too long, or the other street cart meat looks too sketchy, this is a delicious alternative (in fact it’s a much  better alternative). Definitely worth a try. Click the photos for a high-resolution image of the food.
