Dig Inn with Meatballs & Cheddar

Ok, so we have recently featured the diet-unfriendly BBQ at Big Aplle BBQ and the oftentimes less-than-healthy options at Madison Square Eats. So here is a healthy lunch (or dinner) alternative in the Flatiron area. They even deliver!

Dig Inn Seasonal Market (17 East 17th Street) lets you build a nutritionally balanced plate of food with proteins, grains, vegetables, and sauces, with hormone/antibiotic-free meats, and local, sustainable farms. They even show the nutritional info for everything you add to your plate.

How does it work?

  • First you pick 1 protein (Lemon Chicken, Spicy Meatballs, Braised Beef, Rosemary Turkey, Organic Tofu, Veggie Platter) – We like the Spicy Meatballs and lemon Chicken
  • Next you add 1 grain or green (Classic Brown Rice,  Tomato Brown Rice,  Veggie Brown Rice,  Raw Baby Spinach,  Mixed Greens) – Here we usually get the Raw Baby Spinach
  • Then you get 3 market sides (Mediterranean Cauliflower, Roasted Brussel Sprouts,  Roasted Sweet Potatoes,  Indian Spiced Carrots,  Steamed Baby Spinach,  Mushrooms w/ Celery,  Lentils,  Wheatberry Salad, Succotash,  Broccoli & Quinoa Salad,  Tomato & Cucumber Salad, Grass Fed Cheddar) – LOVE the Cheddar and the Broccoli & Quinoa Salad
  • And finally 1 Sauce or spread (Pineapple BBQ,  Spicy Jalapeno,  Roasted Red Pepper,  House Vinaigrette,  “Hot” Hot Sauce,  Sweet Red Hot,  Guacamole,  Hummus,  Tzatziki Spread) – Our favorites are the Tzatziki Spread and the Hummus.

It all gets served on one plate, for a super-healthy and fresh meal.
