Hester Nights is back tonight, with food stands in the open air plaza by the Eventi Hotel (851 6th Avenue between 28th and 29th Street). It happens every Thursday this summer from 5pm-10pm, until September 26th.
We went by 2 weeks ago and I loved the khao man gai (chicken with rice) from the aptly named Khao Man Gai NY booth. It’s a simple-looking dish deceptively loaded with flavor. They slowly poach the chicken with garlic and ginger, and serve it over Thai jasmine rice, but the best part is the sauce, which again features garlic and ginger and is making my mouth water as I write this. We also tried the Japanese griddle cakes from Oko-Ta, but to be honest I really didn’t get it (served with tortilla chips?). And we finished off with some sea salt and caramel ice cream from Dreamscoops.
