KalBQ pork taco

We finally made it over to KalBQ, a Korean fusion restaurant is now open in the Flatiron at 36 Lexington Avenue (between 23rd and 24th street). It’s the creation of owner Q Park, who was born in New York City of Korean parents, with the goal of bringing healthy modern Korean food to New Yorkers.

We tried the Spicy Pork Kimchi taco, the Ssam Steak taco, and the KalBQ short rib slider. Both the Spicy Pork Kimchi taco (photo right) and the Ssam Steak taco have bold Korean flavors, and of two of us, one preferred one and one preferred the other. Both have fresh tasting ingredients and include shredded kimchi and the red onion salsa, but the Spicy Pork Kimchi taco is wrapped in a tortilla and the Ssam Steak taco is wrapped in lettuce and a sesame leaf.

But be careful, both pretty much can’t be picked up without spilling, so grab a fork.

The slider (photo bottom left) could be the best in the bunch, but the flavors were flat compared to the others. Maybe there is a sauce that could take it to the next level.

The location is right next to Baruch College, so this could easily become a student favorite, but it’s worth a try from everyone in the neighborhood as well. Here are the Yelp reviews and the KalBQ menu.
