We are huge fans of lunch and dinner at L & W Oyster Co (254 5th Avenue between 28th and 29th Street), so when they announced that they had started brunch service, MadParkNews got in there to try it out.
You will find some of the same items as on the lunch menu (Lobster BLT, Blue Crab Gazpacho, Oysters), but there are a whole lot of new brunch items as well.
In these first few weeks (maybe longer?), they are serving complimentary cornbread service with honey chipotle butter. That and one of their French press coffees is a great start to a meal.
As tempted as we were by the Ricotta & Meyer Lemon Stuffed French Toast, we went for two savory dishes, the Scallop Hash and the Angry Crab Benedict. I have never had a scallop hash, but it works pretty well to cook up chopped scallop with potatoes and thick cut bacon. The Oyster Rockefeller sauce on the side lets you add a bit of rich flavor to any bite.
If you have had the Angry Crab Cakes off of the dinner menu, then you are already familiar with the core of the Angry Crab Benedict. But on top of that you have perfectly poached eggs, a yuzu hollandaise sauce, and a side of patatas bravas.
To get the best of both savory and sweet, go with a friend or significant other and share the Stuffed French Toast and one of the savory dishes.
