L & W Oyster Co opened their doors at 254 5th Avenue (between 28th and 29th Street) around the time of the hurricane in the old Bar Breton spot, and more recently, added a lunch service. We have tried it for both lunch and dinner, and it has quickly become one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood.

From what we have tried, the standouts are the super-fresh oysters (West coast and East coast with 3 sauces/mignonettes), the Brooklyn clam chowder (with Brooklyn Lager, corn nuts, and pancetta mixed table-side with an almost Per Se flair), the Lobster BLT (served playfully in a paper box with fried onions), the Brussels Sprouts Caesar (with Brussels prepared 2 ways), and the Angry Crab Cake.

The new lunch menu features an array of sandwiches (Lobster ‘Knuckle Sandwich’, Pulled Pork sandwich, Fried Clamwich, and more), soups and salads. There’s certainly a lot to explore in future meals. On a short lunch break? They also have three combo meals featuring a sandwich and a soup or salad that will have you in and out of there in 30 minutes.

L & W is the creation of Almond’s Jason Weiner and Eric Lemonides along with Antonio Rappazzo. They were able to score Chef David Belknap from Per Se to be chef de cuisine.
