We get word from Eater that Gaston Acurio’s restaurant La Mar Cebichería Peruana (11 Madison Avenue) has closed. It took over the space that housed Tabla only 2 years ago with huge fanfare, as the first La Mar outpost in New York City.
La Mar featured cebiches (seafood marinated in lime juice) and causas (whipped potatos with seafood or vegetables) as well as anticuchos (grilled skewers), various fresh seafood entrees and of course empanadas.
The space is a great one, right off of Madison Square Park and next to two destination restaurants, Eleven Madison Park and A Voce. To do well there, I suspect you have to nail the food, pick up the business lunch crowd, get us locals eating there, and have enough of a reputation to attract people (and tourists) from other parts of the city.La Mar Cebichería Peruana has closed,
