La Mar Cebicheria Peruana is now open  just east of Madison Square Park in the 11 Madison Avenue space that housed Tabla until it closed last year. A Peruvian restaurant, La Mar is the creation of  Gastón Acurio and is the East Coast outpost of the restaurants of the same name in San Francisco, Lima, Mexico City, Santiago, Sao Paolo, and Panama City. Gastón Acurio is one of the most respected chefs to come out of South America. Victoriano Lopez will be the Executive Chef at the restaurant.

Here is the La Mar menu from the San Francisco restaurant. It features cebiches (seafood marinated in lime juice) and causas (whipped potatos with seafood or vegetables) as well as anticuchos (grilled skewers), various fresh seafood entrees and of course empanadas.
