Just last month Bar Breton closed and re-opened as La Quenelle (254 5th Avenue). Both spots are the creations of Chef Cyril Renaud. However an ominous post on the La Quenelle Facebook page says they are re-locating to a new location, without further details. “La Quenelle will be moving on to a better home. We will see you upon reopening in a new location. Stay tuned for details.” It’s a strange move after 2 months under the new name, but I am sure there is a reason for it. Sometimes when we see these types of abrupt notes from restaurants (‘re-locating’, ‘remodeling’, ‘closed for XYZ month’) it means the end, but Chef Cyril is not new to this business or city (La Quenelle, Bar Breton, Fleur de Sel) so we suspect his restaurant truly will just be moving somewhere new.

We don’t know the rent in that spot, but it’s an interesting space because it gets both Madison Square Park/Flatiron/Nomad locals but also a steady stream of tourists walking down 5th Avenue from the Empire State Building to the Flatiron Building. It would also be a great location for a good affordable brunch spot (a la Penelope, Clinton Street Baking Co, etc) which have lines out the door.
