sweetgreen kale caesar

Sweetgreen kale caesar

An instant hit in the neighborhood, Sweetgreen Nomad (1164 Broadway between 27th and 28th Street) opened in late July serving farm to table salads, wraps, sides, frozen yogurt and pressed juice. Located just north of Madison Square Park, at Sweetgreen you can order your own custom salad or try one of their signature salad combinations. They also have a monthly featured salad. Ingredients are sourced from local farms, and you can see what came from where on a giant board in the back.

It took me a few attempts to find my salad of choice, but now I have my new favorite lunch salad in the neighborhood – their Kale Caesar Salad with shrimp (roasted chicken is also good). The shredded kale and romaine combo includes roasted chicken (or shrimp), amazing Parmesan crisps, grape tomatoes, fresh lime juice, Caesar dressing, and as a nice touch, they shave the Parmesan right into your salad. I am now eating this 2-3 times per week.

They have many other signature salads including the Santorini (romaine, citrus shrimp, feta, grapes and chickpeas), the District Cobb (Shredded kale, romaine, roasted chicken, goat cheese, egg, bacon, raw corn, avocado, grape tomatoes, agave dijon vinaigrette), the Spicy Sabzi (baby spinach, shredded kale, spicy quinoa, spicy broccoli, carrots, raw beats, basil, sprouts, roasted tofu, carrot chili vinaigrette and sriracha) and more. They always have a few fresh lemonades (Blueberry basil lemonade, Cucumber limeade, Watermelon lemonade) and sides include a raw corn salad (very good), gazpacho, and more. The Stonyfield frozen yogurt is quite refreshing and includes a variety of toppings such as organic granola, organic dark chocolate chips, local honey, agave, and candied pecans.

Beware, lines are long at lunch time, but note they are open for dinner as well, all the way until 11pm! They have lots of tables (and bleachers) for sitting and eating but you can also take it back to your office or home.

The first Sweetgreen opened in Georgetown in 2007 and this is the first one in New York City. If you like healthy fresh salads, this is a must-try spot for lunch or a light dinner. It has become our ‘go to’ salad spot in the Flatiron area.

Open from 10:30am-10pm 7 days a week! Phone: 646-449-8884. Order Online for pickup.
