One of the best places for soups and salads in the Flatiron, Cafe Medina (9 East 17th Street), has closed after 14 years in the neighborhood. It was a very popular take-away lunch spot with bold flavors, good coffee, and fresh salads and sandwiches.

It was not like those terrible corner deli spots that make mediocre sandwiches/wraps pressed up against glass windows alongside old hot/cold “buffets”.

Apparently they were priced out of the space. From their Facebook pageWe are so sad to announce that Cafe Medina has lost it’s commercial lease in Union SQ after almost 14 years.”

For those willing to make the trek, they still operate Cafe Kabila at  250 West 39th Street, bet 7th and 8th Avenue. The Flatiron’s Cafe Medina has closed after 14 years, 3.0 out of 5 based on 2 ratings
