Another restaurant closing in the neighborhood. This time it is The Hurricane (360 Park Avenue South at 26th Street), originally known as the Hurricane Club when it opened in 2010. It started with Polynesian food and drinks, and then pivoted into a steak and sushi spot, but now it is closed.
We loved the idea of a modern “Trader Vics” when Hurricane Club first opened, and the food and drinks were good, although maybe not something you go back to on a weekly or even monthly basis. And to be honest, we never went there when it was a steak and sushi place so we can not comment on that incarnation.
The owners, who also own Quality Meats, Maloney & Porcelli, and Smith & Wollensky New York City, will open a new restaurant in the spot this spring. No word yet on the type of food.
We will post more info when we have it.The Hurricane restaurant has closed near Madison Square Park,
