Tres Carnes has officially opened up in the spot that used to house the recently closed cult-favorite Maffei’s Pizza at 688 6th Avenue (corner of 22nd Street), reader Lauren R tips us off. Tres Carnes serves up ‘Texas Smoked Mexican fare’, which appears to be smoked bbq meats served in Mexican-style preparations. So on the menu we see items like Burritos, Tacos, and Bowls filled with your choice of Smoked Brisket, BBQ Pork Shoulder, Chicken Adobo (as well as a vegetarian option) and fillings such as Smashed and Smoky Guacamole, Street-Cart Esquites, Roasted Chipotle Squash.

Speaking of Chipotle, it does sort of feel like a twist on the Mexican food chain, with similar menu items but different flavors and ingredients. Tres Carnes also serves Agua Frescas, Micheladas, and Spiked Mexican Limeade. Here is the full Tres Carnes menu.

We have not tried Tres Carnes, but will report back when we do.
