The 2013 Veterans Day Parade, now called America’s Parade, runs right up 5th Avenue from 26th to 56th Street on Monday, November 11th.
It starts off with an opening ceremony at the Eternal Light Monument in Madison Square Park at 10am, and then a wrath laying at 11am (11/11 at 11am). Then the parade then starts around 11:30am.
Lots of marching bands and all branches of the military participate, with special recognition this year to American Women in Uniform. The featured branch of service this year is the Army.
The parade honors the service of our veterans and the currently serving military. It is a non-partisan, non-political event. The Grand Marshalls this year are General Raymond Odierno (Chief of Staff, US Army), Anthony Principi (Former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs; V.P., Wounded Warrior Project Board of Directors) and Ann E. Dunwoody (First Female Four Star General Officer in the U.S. Military).
If you can’t make it, it will be broadcast live on Fox 5 from noon to 3pm. For more info, see www.americasparade.org.
