On Saturday March 10th, the children’s playground in Madison Square Park will be dedicated to Police Officer Moira Ann Smith of the 13th Precinct (the Precinct that covers the Madison Square Park area). Officer Smith lost her life while on duty on September 11th, 2001 in Tower 2. From what we have read, “Officer Smith was the only female NYPD officer to have perished during the attacks and left behind her two-year-old daughter and her husband.”

The children’s playground is a popular part of Madison Square Park located near Madison Avenue and 25th Street.

The dedication ceremony will go from 11am-noon and be attended by NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn and Madison Square Park Conservancy Chairman David Berliner. read more about Officer Smith and the event at  www.madisonsquarepark.org/news/blog/playground-dedication-ceremony.
