If you have seen strange black capes on statues around the city, including on the statue of Admiral Farragut on the north side of Madison Square Park, here’s the deal. It’s part of a promotion of the NBC show about a superhero that premieres tonight called ‘The Cape‘.

The promotion is in conjunction with the New York City Parks Department, with a seemingly loose association to the statues and the show’s superhero because they are all ‘heroes’.

I suppose it brings some attention to the statues and not just the show, but for this type of public commercial display draping capes over statues and putting a kiosk in front of them, I hope the City of New York was well paid (the city can certainly use the money). Otherwise this seems a bit ridiculous.
