250 5th avenue

On the heels of the Ace Hotel, the Nomad Hotel, the Flatiron Hotel, the MAve Hotel and other hotels that have opened in the last few years just north of Madison Square Park, we now see a new proposed hotel to be located at 250 5th Avenue (on the corner of 28th Street).

Basically the proposal calls for the historic building at 250 5th Avenue to stay structurally the same, but to add a 23 story hotel tower set back on the 28th Street side of the building. There is also a proposed restaurant for the top floor of the original structure.

The photo to the right shows the current building at 250 5th Avenue. If you look to the left side of the photo you can see only the first 2 floors with no floors built on top. That is where the setback 23 floor tower would go.

The owner is Quartz Associates LLC, and according to Cityland, the architect involved is Platt Byard Dovell White. Because it involves a landmarked building, it is currently in the approval process both with the city and Community Board 5.
