The giant 20,000 gallon aquarium seems to be in place in the lobby of the upcoming boutique Flatiron Hotel (1141 Broadway at 26th Street), and MadParkNews got a sneak peak photo.

The hotel will be the latest addition to the neighborhood, following the Ace Hotel (Broadway and 29th). the MAve Hotel (27th and Madison), and the re-branded Fashion 26 (152 West 26th Street). It appears to be a Meyer Jabara hotel. We have heard 64 rooms and  a rooftop lounge with Empire State Building views. Interestingly, Italy’s Sorgente Group has negotiated to “buy a majority stake in the Flatiron Building” with the aim of eventually turning it into an iconic hotel. I guess it won’t be called the Flatiron Hotel…

The Madison Square North Historic District designation report describes the building “as an Art Deco style commercial building designed by William I. Hohauser and built in 1926-27”. It seems they will be allowed to removed the street level metal gates that were not part of the original facade, and a marquis for the hotel has been added fitting the original art deco style.

There is no word yet as to an opening date.
