Built in 1883 to the west of Madison Square Park, the Hotel Chelsea (222 West 23rd street) is one of the most legendary hotels in New York City, and according to the Wall Street Journal, it is up for sale. A popular temporary home among writers, artists, and musicians, the hotel is apparently in need of a modernization, and the current owners are ready to pass it on to new owners.

Among other things, it was the site where author Dylan Thomas died, the girlfriend of Sid Vicious died, Warhol filmed a movie, and Arthur C. Clarke wrote ‘2001: A Space Oddyssey’ among other things. You can read the history of the hotel and it’s famous guests at www.hotelchelsea.com/history.php.
