Many of you have seen the red-tailed hawk which has been hanging around recently in Madison Square Park. Well Igor Tsiperson snapped an awesome photo of the hawk perched just a couple feet away from a squirrel. And yes from what I understand hawks do eat squirrels, but our Madison Square Park squirrels are almost domesticated given their constant interaction with tourists. Apparently this squirrel in the photograph lived. Hawks also eat mice and rats, which is good for the city.

Definitely check out the photo in the New York Times at http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/09/caption-contest-showdown-in-madison-square-park/.

If anyone has a photo of the hawk that we can publish, please send it in to info @madparknews.com.
