DNAinfo reports that the MoMath (Museum of Mathematics), which is opening this year on the north side of Madison Square Park (11 East 26th Street), did get approval by the City’s Landmarks Commission for their proposed front entrance and window facade. The design was originally called ‘too modern’ and denied by the Community Board 5 Landmark committee, but the official New York City Landmarks Commission has the final word on such matters.

The state of the art museum is slated to open in the fall of 2012 and will feature dozens of math related exhibits ‘that will showcase the beauty, creativity, and real world applications of mathematics’. In concept it has been compared to San Francisco’s amazing Exploratorium.
