Smokers are on notice now that as of May 23rd, there will be no smoking in Madison Square Park (or any other public park in the city).

Mayor Bloomberg signed a law that will ban smoking in public places in New York City including parks, beaches, and public plazas, which obviously also includes Madison Square Park.

The law will go into effect on May 23rd.

The goal of the legislation is to reduce second hand smoke and the litter in public places from cigarette butts.

We polled MadParkNews readers and found that 70% agreed with the law, and 27% disagreed.
