In a brilliant move, New York Magazine reports that someone took it into their own hands to create a “Tourist” lane and a “New Yorkers” lane on a sidewalk stretch of 5th Avenue in the Flatiron at 22nd street. Unfortunately it has been removed.

There is nothing wrong with tourists, and New Yorkers are not nearly as rude as the widespread stereotype would suggest,  but New Yorkers do tend to walk with a purpose and efficiency that puts them on a collision course with tourists and their slow walking, sometimes 4-5 across formation blockades and slow but sudden turns to look at something without regard to the fast walking local a few steps back.

Brilliant idea. (Thanks for the reader tip from Uptown Faye)
