[UPDATE 4/19: Several sources report that the NYPD has taken into custody 46 year old Tara Anne McDonald for this attempted kidnapping.
Unbelievably, this woman has apparently been arrested “12 times in New York City, including five attempted kidnappings and two actual kidnappings dating back to 1994. She’s also been arrested for robbery, disorderly conduct, felony assault, petit larceny and DWI. She had three additional arrests in Nassau County and one in Florida, police said. McDonald served more than a year in prison for an attempted kidnapping in 1998, police said.”
If convicted, I think it is time she stays in jail and gets psychiatric help.]
A woman allegedly attempted to grab an 8 month old baby out of a stroller near 8th Avenue and 17th Street in Chelsea on Thursday around 4pm. We don’t normally report on things outside of the Madison Square Park vicinity, but given the nature of the crime, we wanted to alert parents and nannies of babies that this crazy woman is out there. (She somehow got away)
The woman allegedly approached the baby and nanny and started talking to them, then grabbed at the stroller and tried to walk away with it and the baby. The nanny and a nearby UPS driver were able to get the stroller back. She was reportedly wearing a beige coat and hat, with jeans and appeared to be in her 50’s and possibly homeless.
If you have information or know this woman call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
