The windows are all covered up and the phone number rings to nothing. Their Twitter and Facebook pages went silent in December. It seems that Dewey’s Flatiron Bar & Restaurant (210 5th Avenue between 25th and 26th Street) has closed after 18 years in the neighborhood. The casual bar and restaurant was known for its low key environment and as a place to watch a game and have drinks without attitude. It opened in 1996 before Madison Square Park was renovated and before the neighborhood became more residential.
There is always the
chance they are renovating, [Update 1/29 from reader Amy Z: “They are definitely not renovating. They had a public auction and took absolutely everything out of the restaurant. It’s closed for good!“] but from the lack of any communication anywhere it certainly seems as though they are closed for good. If they are indeed closed, the space is absolutely prime for a new restaurant or cafe, as it is across the street from Madison Square Park and right up from the Flatiron building.
