One of the great events each summer in New York City is Summer Streets, where they close down 7 miles of streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, so you can walk, run, bike or play without any cars. For the most part it runs of Park Avenue, and passes right by the Madison Square Park area on Park Avenue South. We even have one of the big Midtown Rest Stop at 25th and Park with “free bike and rollerblade rental, free bike repair, free Learn to Ride bike classes the Whole Foods Market City Picnic Area at 24th Street, recycling information and a water station”. You can also of course bring your own bike or rollerblades (so you won’t have to wait in line to get one).

Summer Streets takes place on three consecutive Saturdays (August 4th/11th/18th) from 7am-1pm. Here is the official Summer Streets route:
