Marimekko opens flagship us store in the Flatiron next to Madison Square Park

The Marimekko flagship store is now open at 200 5th Avenue just west of New York’s Madison Square Park (adjacent to Eataly). Marimekko features clothing, accessories and home products, including tons of fabric so you can make your own stuff. Marimekko was founded in Finland.

They are known for their vibrant, original prints and creative designs featured on all of their merchandise.

The store was designed by Japanese architectural firm IMA and is just under 4000 square feet, according to a news release.

“Opening a shop of our own in an excellent location in the heart of Manhattan will support our strategy of building up Marimekko’s profile and strengthening the brand image” stated President and CEO Mika Ihamuotila.

And if you saw the bright umbrellas and tablecloths currently at Madison Square Eats, yes those are Marimekko prints.

Another forgotten fact is that Jacqueline Kennedy brought Marimekko fashions to the US spotlight in the 1960′s when she had many of their dresses. Sex and the City also featured Carrie in a Marimekko bikini and dress.

Lehman Brothers Holdings reportedly agrees to sell stake in 200 5th Avenue to JP Morgan Asset Mgmt

As earlier mentioned, the Wall Street Journal now confirms that Lehman Brothers Holdings has agreed to sell its stake in 200 5th Avenue, best known for it’s marquis tenants Eataly, Tiffany & Co., and Grey Group and its views on to Madison Square Park. The buyer is reportedly a fund at JP Morgan Asset Management.

The Madison Square Park area has been booming over the last few years with entertainment and internet startups (Zynga, GroupMe, Bonobos), fashion design houses like Vera Wang, interactive ad agencies, and the headquarters of many prestigious companies moving to the park vicinity (the Whitney museum, Tiffany & Co., Chipotle, and Grey Group).

The Wall Street Journal reports that the estate of Lehman Brothers Holdings wants to sell its majority ownership in 200 5th Avenue, best known for it’s marquis tenants Eataly, Tiffany & Co., and Grey Group.

And the reader rumor mill suggests one of the ‘Big Four’ talent agencies is looking to move its New York headquarters to the space. Tiffany Headquarters moving to Madison Square Park

The Observer reports that Tiffany & Co. is in fact moving their headquarters to 260,000 square feet of space at 200 5th Avenue right off of Madison Square Park.

They will join advertising giant Grey Group and Italian artisinal marketplace Eataly as tenants in the building around the thriving Madison Square Park area.

According to the New York Observer, Tiffany & Co. is seriously considering moving their headquarters to 200,000 square feet at 200 5th Avenue right off of Madison Square Park. As you will recall, Grey Group moved their headquarters to the same newly renovated building at the end of 2009, and gourmet Italian market (and restaurants) Eataly will be in the same building as of summer 2010.

Update on Batali’s Eataly rooftop brewery-pub at 200 5th Avenue

(UPDATE: EATALY ROOFTOP BAR TO OPEN JUNE 3rd, 2011. SEE PHOTOS AND VIDEO AT http://www.madparknews.com/madison-square-park-restaurants/eataly-rooftop-birreria-to-open-june-3rd-2011/)Word is in that four breweries have been selected by B&B Hospitality Group (Mario Batali & Joe Bastianich) to create the previously announced Eataly rooftop brew-pub and restaurant. It will be a combination of two American craft breweries (Dogfish and Russian River Brewing Company) and two Italian craft brewers (Birrificio Le Baladin and Birra del Borgo). They will actually brew beer on the rooftop using a copper-clad brewing system. The brew-pub will be 8000 square feet with Flatiron/Empire State building views and feature a Batali restaurant.

“Eataly Brewery will be a great fusion of the well-known Italian gastronomic culture and our rising beer culture with the taste and the creativity of the American craft beer movement. This may well be the craziest and amazing brewery in the world” stated Leonardo Di Vincenzo, Brewmaster, Birra del Borgo.

The rooftop brew-pub is in addition to the previously announced 20,000+ square foot Italian specialty artisinal foods market and restaurants set to open in summer 2010 on the first floor at 200 5th Avenue right off of Madison Square Park.The original Eataly in Turin Italy features artisanal producers of pastas, meats, cheese, salumi, fish, pizzas, breads, olive oils and much more.
