Community Board hearing on Big Apple BBQ tonight

As previously stated, two committees of Community Board 5 have voted to block the Big Apple BBQ from holding its event in Madison Square Park. The second of two public hearings that you can attend to listen in and voice your opinion on the topic is tonight Thursday, April 14th (6pm) at St Xavier High School at 30 West 16th Street (2nd Floor Library).

The Big Apple BBQ is currently slated for June 11th and 12th of 2011 in Madison Square Park. The event features some of the country’s best pit-masters serving up BBQ over the weekend.

The second public hearing is Thursday, April 14th (6pm) at St Xavier High School at 30 West 16th Street (2nd Floor Library).

Thursday April 7th (6pm): Joint Session Parks and Consents & Variances Committee Hearing at the SGI – USA NY Culture Center located at 7 East 15th Street

Thursday April 14th (6pm): Full Community Board Hearing at St Xavier High School at 30 West 16th Street (2nd Floor Library)

Community Board vote on Big Apple BBQ pushed to April

Update: Official word is in that Community Board 5 has pushed the vote to block the Big Apple BBQ from holding its event in Madison Square Park until the April session.

Community board committees vote to end Big Apple BBQ in Madison Square Park

Early word is in from DNA Info that two committees of Community Board 5 have voted to block the Big Apple BBQ from holding its event in Madison Square Park. The event features some of the country’s best pit-masters serving up BBQ over the weekend. The main complaint from the committees appears to be damage to the park. As of now the event is scheduled for June 11th and 12th, but it is unclear if the vote is for this year or future years.

Apparently it will now go to the full board for a vote on March 10th at St. Xavier High School (30 West 16th St., 2nd floor library). Starts at 6pm.

Big Apple BBQ this weekend in Madison Square Park

This weekend the country’s best pitmasters take over Madison Square Park and cook up some amazing bbq. Walk stand to stand and sample ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken, homemade sausage and more.

It’s free to roam around and $8 to try the stand’s food. Local favorites Hill Country, and Rack and Soul will be there, along with 15 other bbq masters from Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia and Illinois. Live music as well featuring Secret Country, Carolyn Wonderland, Bob Schneider, the Derailers, Charles Bradley, and Nick Curran & the Lowlifes.
