Dinner and a movie at Birch Coffee on Saturday

This Saturday evening at Birch Coffee (7 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel), the crew at Birch will host dinner and a movie.

Dinner is at 7pm, and we have heard cult favorite “True Romance” will show at 8pm.

Dinner, coffee, and a movie will cost you $15. Not bad for NYC! For more info check the Birch website.

Opening: Birch Coffee Opens Today!

Birch Coffee looks like it will be opening October 27th, bringing more good coffee to the north of Madison Square Park area (7 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel). In addition to coffee, they will have a menu of sandwiches, salads, and breakfast foods.

They will also host events, such as a daily meditation from noon-1pm, and broadcast music such as the Global DJ Broadcast with Markus Schulz and Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance.

After years of cookie cutter chain coffee shops, Birch shows it has a perspective, shares it with the neighborhood, and looks like it will put the soul back into the neighborhood coffee shop.

Update: Birch Coffee website is live (with a possible opening date mentioned)

It looks like the Birch Coffee website is officially live. You can read more about the coffee they will serve, their food menu, and their story. Word is they are shooting for a late October opening date. One cool thing they have said they will be doing is having an open library of books where you can borrow a book, donate a book,or just pick something up to read while you are there.

Coming Soon: Birch Coffee at the Gershwin Hotel

Stumptown is not the only new coffee shop opening up north of Madison Square Park. Birch Coffee is under construction and looking at an opening at the Gershwin Hotel (7 East 27th Street) some time this fall. They chronicle the daily build out on their blog at http://www.birchcoffee.com/blog.php. It’s an interesting look at what it takes to get cafe going in New York City.

Early indications suggest a green philosophy, with Rainforest Alliance coffees and locally farmed food/produce. Birch Coffee will also have a menu of sandwiches and salads.

While they are a bit more under the radar than the media darling Stumptown, MadParkNews.com will try to get more info on their coffee and their perspective on opening up in the area.

More to come as we get it…
