Birch Coffee (5 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel) celebrates its first anniversary this evening from 6-9pm with free beer, wine, and coffee and a live acoustic guitarist at 7pm and a DJ set at 7:30pm.

They also let us know they are bringing the Gorgonzola and Apple Grilled Cheese back to the menu.

Birch was recently named “Best Coffee Shop For Killing Time” (and the ‘best peppermint iced tea in town’) as part of the NY Press ‘Best of 2010′. Definitely stop by to help them celebrate.

If you haven’t tried the cold brewed iced coffee yet at Birch (5 East 27th St. at the Gershwin Hotel), we hear you can save 5% by asking for it by it’s formal name, “cold brewed iced gold deliciousness”.

Not a joke people, let’s hear you order it properly.

[BirchIcedSolo] The guys at Birch Coffee (5 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel) have informed me that with the warmer weather, they are doing something most cafes don’t do…they are cold brewing their iced coffee. Most places brew hot coffee and then cool it down before serving, but Birch has found cold brewing to be the optimal way to make it iced.

Supposedly it is “more addicting than crack”. Write in if you try it and let us know how it is.

The local grilled cheese kings at Birch Coffee (5 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel) will be competing nationally as part of the 2010 Grilled Cheese Invitational in California in April.

Birch co-owner Jeremy tells me they will be having loads of grilled cheese tastings throughout March and April so definitely stop by to see what the hype is about.

Birch Coffee (5 East 27th at the Gershwin Hotel) will finally have their grand opening party tonight (Saturday) from 8pm-12am. With their alcohol license now in place, Paul at Birch informs us that there will be free sparkling wine, $2 half pints of Peak Organic among other beverages as well as Gorgonzola grilled cheese sandwiches, house made hummus and foccacia to sample.

DJ Mike St. Jules will be on the turn tables from 10pm-midnight.

This Saturday evening at Birch Coffee (7 East 27th Street at the Gershwin Hotel), the crew at Birch will host dinner and a movie.

Dinner is at 7pm, and we have heard cult favorite “True Romance” will show at 8pm.
