One of the first things we tried at Eataly was the gelato (hey it’s hot out). There are a half dozen everyday flavors (chocolate, vanilla, espresso, chocolate chip, pistachio, etc) a half dozen fruit (lemon, apple, fig, strawberry, raspberry) and a few special mixes (ex. chocolate chip banana).

The chocolate and vanilla were both very good – sweet without being too rich and nicely refreshing. It was a bit of a race against the 90 degree heat to eat it before it dripped. The chocolate chip banana was also very good but the banana overpowers the blend.

Cones are $3.80 (one scoop), $4.80 (two scoops), and $5.80 (three scoops) and for some reason cups start at $5.80 (two scoops).

A few things to note:

* The line is long, but moves pretty well
* Any slowness is from people trying tons of tastes or asking for translations (the whole menu is in Italian)
* The cones are a way better deal than the cups
* They were out of a lot of flavors because of the crowds
