Outdoor grill at Limelight Marketplace

Tucked into a side area of the Limelight Marketplace (20th Street at 6th Avenue), an outdoor grill serves up a menu of burgers, skirt steak (pictured here), grilled chicken, lobster rolls, pulled pork sandwiches and more (see menu).

We grabbed a skirt steak over mixed greens and found it overall a pretty good sandwich (it even seemed like the skirt steak was wrapped in bacon, which never hurts).

The Limelight Grill is apparently operated by Bruce Caulfield (Tracks Bar & Grill, Bruce’s Burger).

Yelpers give it a solid 5 stars!

Sandwiches at Jezalin’s in the Limelight Marketplace

In the back of the lower level of the Limelight Marketplace (6th Avenue and 20th Street), a small gourmet shop called Jezalin’s offers up artisinal bread, cheeses, desserts, specialty seasonings and sauces as well as a nice menu of takeaway salads and sandwiches.

This is the first physical store for Jezalin’s, but they previously have operated (and still run) an online gourmet website, www.Jezalins.com.

At the store location they make over 15 special sandwiches as well five ‘Grab & Go’ ready-made sandwiches.

We have taken a liking to the Taste of Milan sandwich ($7.99), a simple combination of thinly sliced salami, provolone cheese, and roasted peppers on a fresh baguette (photo to the right). It’s a perfect quick lunch if you are in the area.

Outdoor grill to open at Limelight Marketplace

Grubstreet reports that the Limelight Marketplace will open an outdoor restaurant this weekend serving ‘skirt steak, burgers, grilled chicken, as well as lobster and pulled pork sliders’, operated by Bruce Caulfield (Tracks Bar & Grill, Bruce’s Burger).

They also report that Grimaldis is still a month or so off from opening there.

Limelight Marketplace to open Friday

[limelight market gourmet market] According to Racked and Gothamist, the long-awaited conversion of the old Limelight nightclub (and other clubs in the old church) into the Limelight Marketplace (6th avenue at 20th street) is near completion and will open Friday at 2pm.

Plans were for 60 boutique shops and a gourmet market in 20,000 square feet (and even a rumor of a Grimaldi’s pizzeria inside).

An update on the Limelight Marketplace, including Grimaldis!

More on the upcoming Limelight Marketplace (6th Ave and 20th Street) from the New York Times, including a mention of Grimaldi’s pizzeria inside! As you may recall, the church turned club will be reborn as a marketplace for shopping and food this year.

More Details on Limelight Marketplace (Part 1)

As previously reported, the old Limelight/Avalon nightclub space is going through a massive gutting and recreation to become the Limelight Marketplace, a retail space with dozens of shops, a market, and what looks from the floor-plan to be two restaurants with a courtyard. (Rumors suggest Danny Meyer was/is considering the space.)

Here are some details (with spectacular illustrations by Mansour Design):

Level 1 – Festival of Shops featuring ‘cutting edge retailers and products that put the fun back in shopping’ as well as a Gourmet and Specialty Food Market.
